Hello!
My name is Shima.
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Georgia. My work centers on helping individuals heal from the impacts of generational trauma, navigate emotional wounds, and build healthier patterns for themselves and future generations. While I am deeply passionate about serving Black and Caribbean women, my clinical approach supports all clients committed to breaking cycles and reclaiming their emotional freedom. I utilize a culturally responsive, trauma-informed lens—meeting clients where they are, honoring their lived experiences, and guiding them toward sustainable healing and growth.
I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches, with additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and specialized trauma modalities. I believe in helping clients explore the stories they've been told—and the ones they've internalized—while equipping them with practical tools to challenge harmful patterns and build healthier narratives.
My presence in session is warm, collaborative, and direct. I hold space for hard conversations while guiding clients toward insight and action. You can expect a balance of empathy and accountability—I'm here to affirm your experiences, but also to challenge patterns that no longer serve you.
Core values that guide my work:
Empowerment: You are the expert on your life.
Healing over performance: We focus on your emotional well-being, not just "holding it together.
Cultural humility: I honor the complex layers of identity, culture, and generational experiences you bring into the room.
In our sessions, you can expect a space that's structured yet flexible. Some days, we'll process deeply. Other days, we'll focus on tangible skills and strategies. Either way—you'll leave each session with clarity, reflection, or an action step designed to support your growth and healing.
While I work with a diverse range of clients, I connect most deeply with individuals who are ready to examine the impact of their upbringing, cultural conditioning, and generational patterns. I particularly enjoy working with Black and Caribbean women, but my work resonates with anyone committed to breaking free from survival mode and doing the deep work of healing.
I currently offer in-person and virtual therapy and enjoy creating a space where clients can show up authentically from wherever they are. Additionally, I provide financial wellness and other specialized workshops designed to support broader community healing and growth beyond individual therapy.
What differentiates my practice is my ability to hold both depth and direction in the therapy room. I create a space where clients feel seen, affirmed, and gently challenged. My culturally responsive approach allows me to name the unspoken—especially around family, cultural expectations, and generational trauma—while offering practical steps toward emotional freedom and self-trust.
I was born and raised in the vibrant West Indies, and when I'm not helping clients untangle their stories, I'm outside getting my hands dirty in my garden, tackling DIY home projects, and transforming old furniture pieces into something new.
