Hello!

My name is Darby.

I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist, working on obtaining my Associate License. My approach to therapy is unique. I strive to create a safe space where you can be 100% vulnerable, viewing my work through a BioPsychoSocial lens. This means I focus on the importance of relationships with family, friends, work, and self as the key to overall healthy well-being.

I take a Solution-Focused approach, helping you unpack the problem and then build the skills to find the solution that best caters to you confidently. My approach to working with adolescents and families is centered around play therapy. I firmly believe that play is a powerful form of communication for children. By using play, I can decipher the mental or developmental challenges your child may be experiencing that can't be communicated through words. I also use this approach with families, as it gives everyone a voice and fosters connection, problem-solving skills, and teamwork-the foundational skills needed to overcome familial adversity.

My number one belief is that no one can tell you how to live your life, including me, but I can learn your context and help you navigate life the way you want. Self-identity and values are also very prominent in my process of getting you to a healthier you. I'm not here to tell you what you're doing wrong and to live life like me or someone else, I’m here to understand your behavior from a non-bias lens and then assist you in navigating life challenges based on your core values. I ground myself in modeling honesty and vulnerability during sessions because I want my clients to expect what I want from them. I am a visual learner; therefore, I believe in modeling the behavior you want to see. In my approach, successful treatment requires a strong sense of self; honesty is the key to obtaining that. A lawyer cannot truly help you unless you tell the truth; therefore, I can't either. That said, my showing up as a human in session is evidence that being confident in who you are is the start of creating the positive change you seek. I love working with the ADHD and Anxiety population and also pride myself in being a Queer Affirming therapist. I am very open and empathetic.

Throughout this bio, I have constantly brought up the need for a non-judgmental space to navigate identity effectively. My dedication to having a non-judgmental stance is a substantial strength, ensuring that my clients feel accepted and respected.

On my off days, I love cult documentaries and reading fiction novels that always include an anxious main character. These are not just hobbies, but also a reflection of my understanding of anxiety. My favorite animal is a cow, which you will see when you make it to my office. And, every now and again, I like to hide little duckies in different spots around my office for people to find, adding a touch of fun and surprise to the therapeutic environment.
